JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY
Inspiring the next generation of golfers across Torbay.
The Academy
The Churston Junior Golf Academy.
Welcome to the Churston Junior Golf Academy, the home of fun, inclusive and structured junior golf coaching. It is led by PGA professional Richard Coffin, who looks after junior coaching here at the club.
The programme helps young players build confidence, develop skills and fall in love with the game, whatever their starting point. The aim is simple. Get the next generation inspired to play a sport they can carry with them for life.

How We Coach
Simple, engaging and rewarding.
Learning golf should be simple, engaging and rewarding. Sessions blend games, challenges and structured learning, so every child can progress at their own pace while having fun with friends.
Every session is designed to:
- Build coordination, focus and confidence
- Develop real golf skills through simple, game based learning
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and self belief
- Mark measurable progress with badges and certificates
Above all, golf should be fun, and should teach life skills that last.

The Pathway
A clear route from first swing to first tee.
Churston Golf Club’s Junior Section is one of the most vibrant and successful in the south west. Young players benefit from expert instruction through structured lessons, plus full membership opportunities that let them enjoy all the privileges of our club.
- Start. Fun taster sessions and beginner groups for ages 5 to 11
- Develop. Skill building in small, manageable groups
- Perform. Advanced sessions and on course experience
- Compete. Working towards representing club and county
Every stage includes skills challenges, certificates and badges to mark progress and celebrate success.

What To Expect
From forty five to sixty minutes, and never dull.
Each session includes:
- A warm up or team game to get started
- A focused coaching theme, whether putting, chipping or full swing
- Mini challenges and skill tests
- Recognition and rewards for progress
All sessions are delivered by PGA professional Richard Coffin, who brings more than 45 years in the game and a simple, encouraging approach to every lesson. The junior Monday Club runs on most Mondays of the year.

Why Churston
A safe and welcoming place to learn.
Set in the heart of South Devon, Churston offers a safe, inspiring and welcoming environment for young golfers. Although one of the oldest clubs in the country, the club takes a modern and refreshing approach to welcoming junior players.
Sessions make the most of Churston’s practice facilities, giving juniors the space and support they need to learn, play and grow in confidence.

Recognition
England Golf Junior Hub.
Churston is a recognised Junior Hub. The award was created jointly by England Golf and the Golf Foundation to identify and showcase the clubs that are the right place for young people to try, learn and love the game.
Junior Hub status is not given out lightly. Clubs have to be affiliated to England Golf, hold SafeGolf and Respect in Golf accreditation, and show evidence of a real junior pathway at every stage of a young golfer’s development. For parents it is a simple signal that the club takes junior golf, and junior welfare, seriously.
Churston is only the 3rd club in the south west to gain this prestigious award.

How To Join
Come and try, no experience needed.
Regular group coaching sessions run for ages 5 to 11, organised by age and experience level. There is a taster session available so your child can come and try golf in a relaxed, friendly setting, and a weekly coaching programme following the development pathway.
All equipment is provided and complete beginners welcome. To book a place or ask a question, speak to Richard Coffin on 07989 998069.
